History of Taipei Physical Education College (TPEC)
 In 1968, Taipei Physical Education College (TPEC) was founded at Song-Shan, Taipei City. Our mission is to carry through the government policy of physical education to cultivate elite athletes, artistic dancers, physical educators, athletic trainers, coaches, sport scientists, sport administrators, and sport professionals. It has been 40 years since our school was founded to provide quality educational programs in physical educations. Lin Hong-Tang was the first president of TPEC. Under the leadership of president Lin, a solid foundation was set up for the school. In 1977, Lin retired and was replaced by Liu Shoua-Ban. Tsai Ter-Long succeeded to be the third president when Mr. Liu left the office in October, 1985. Mr. Tsai retired in May, 1994, and was replaced by Cheng Whoh. Cheng Fong-Fung, the dean of the academic affairs, stepped up as the acting president when Mr. Cheng Whoh retired in August, 2002. Cheng Fong-Fung did innovatively during his short term as an acting president. In 2003, Dr. Yang Chong-Her, who was an alumnus, was elected to be the president. Dr. Yang delicated himself in collegiate administration and completed moving the campus from Song-Shan to the new Tian-Mu campus in 2006. President Yang was promoted to the director of Sports Council in the cabinet in January, 2007. Vice-president Chang Ming-Fong took up the office. Dr. Chen Kunning, the incumbent president, came into the office in July, 2007. His leadership is appearing macroscopic, open-minded, coordinated, innovative, caring, and inspiring. His efforts will direct the institute to a new prospect. President Chen has been administrating positively and creatively since he assumed the office. In his administrative philosophy, science, health, management, recreation, and arts are what the college pursues. What the institute has been striving since his term is to enhance academics, promote efficiency, be humanistic, and stay coordinated. In 1996, TPEC was upgraded to a four-year college. In the school year of 1998, 7 new schools of department have been established as follows: (1) Department of Ball Sports, (2) Department of Athletics, (3) Department of Aquatic Sports, (4) Department of Martial Arts, (5) Department of Recreation and Sport Management, (6) Department of Dance, and (7) two-year bachelor program of Physical Education. In addition, the graduate program of Sport Science was instituted in 1999. Afterwards in 2003, Physical Education and Health Department was established. Moreover, 6 new graduate programs was instituted the following year of 2004, they are Sport Technique, Sport Pedagogy, Sport, Recreation and Sport Management, as well as Dance master's program. In 2006 graduate program of transition and leisure education for the disabled was instituted. A year later in 2007, more new programs were established including: Department of Exercise Performing Arts, Graduate Institute of Physical Education and Health, and the Doctoral Program in Kinesiology. TPEC never stop on seeking excellence, academically and athletically. In order to improve the academic environment, TPEC has been embarking upon the construction of a new campus at Tian-Mu. In 2006, the construction of the teaching building was completed, and the campus was moved from Song-Shan to the current Tian-Mu campus in September. In the near future, the construction of the college administration building, the scientific building, and more other contemporary facilities will be continually completed soon. The construction of the new campus is expecting to be entirely completed by 2011. TPEC is projected to be the main center of athletics and sport science in Taiwan, and the wellspring of cultivating sport, health, management, and art professionals in physical education.
